Algebra 1: test 26 will now be a take-home test. You may use your book, your notes, or a friend. It will count as a test score, not a quiz score. Please complete by Wednesday May 6 or the first day back at school. The test is a post on this blog; look below.
Algebra 2: test 28 will now be a take-home test. You may use your book, your notes, or a friend. It will count as a test score, not a quiz score. Please complete by Wednesday May 6 or the first day back at school. The test is a post on this blog; look below.
Algebra 1/2: there will be no homework until we return to school.
Any missing homework must be turned in by May 6 or the next day of classes or you will earn a "0" for that missing assignment.

Algebra 1 Test 26
Note: either copy, paste into word document, print, and then solve, or copy by hand onto a piece of lined paper and then solve.
1. Edward and Diana walked to the dock at 3 miles per hour, jumped into a boat, and motored to the town of Dillon at 9 miles per hour. If the total distance (walking and boating) was 15 miles and the total time (walking and boating) took 4 hours, how far did they go by boat?
HINT: Distance = Rate x Time, Total Distance = Distance walking + Distance boating
2. Martha has a jar that contains 5 red marbles and 7 white marbles.
a. What is the probability of drawing 1 white marble, keeping it in her hand, and then drawing another white marble? (without replacement)
b. What is the probability of drawing 1 white marble, putting it back in the jar, and then drawing another white marble? (with replacement)
3. Christopher’s piggy bank contained $7.60 in nickels and pennies. If there were 40 m ore pennies than nickels, how many of each did he have in the piggy bank?
HINT: write one equation for the number of coins and other equation for the value of the coins
5. Find m: _1_ + _a_ = x note: 1/y is a fraction with "1" on top and "y" on bottom
y m
6. Find a: _ a_ - b = _ c_
x y
7. Solve for x: __ 2+x__ - _4_ = 0
x x
8. Solve for x: _3_ = _ 2__
2x x+6
9. Add (your answer will be a fraction): HINT: factor x2– 9 first
_ 3__ + _ 2x__ Note: "x2" is "x squared"
x2– 9 x – 3
10. Add (your answer will be a fraction): HINT: factor x2+5x+6 first
__ -x___ - __ 4x___ Note: "x2" is "x squared"
x+3 x2+5x+6
11. Graph on a number line all possible values of x: - /x/ + 3 < -1
15. Solve for x by factoring: x2 – 17x – 60 = 0 Note: "x2" is "x squared"
17. Given the points (3, -2) and (-1, 4):
a) find the slope of the line that passes through both points HINT: Slope is a fraction
b) find the distance between the line
HINT: graph the points, make a triangle, and use Pythagorean’s theorem

Algebra 2 Test 28 Lessons 90-110
HINT: Copy, paste into a word document and print OR copy by hand onto a piece of paper. Then solve.
1. Solve for x, y, and z:
x + y + z = 1
2x – y + z = -5
3x + y + z = 5
2. The Ochlochnee River travels at 3 miles per hour. A fast boat can go 230 miles downstream in twice the time it took to go 85 miles up the river. What is the speed of the boat in still water? What is the time for downstream and upstream?
3. The Bookstore went out of business because the markup they used was only 20% of the selling price of the books. If they sold one shipment for a total price of $1800, what did they pay for the books? [Hint: $1800 includes their purchase price plus the markup.]
4. Solve by Factoring:
a. 3x3 + 5x2 = -2x b. 2 = 2x2 – 3x c. 3x2 + 8x + 4 = 0
5. Multiply: ( x½ + y½ ) (x½ - y -¼ )
